Pantula Rama, noted vocalist was conferred ‘Isai Peroli’

Pantula Rama, noted vocalist was conferred ‘Isai Peroli’ title and Janaki Rangarajan, a Bharatanatyam exponent was conferred Nadanamamani at the inauguration of 37 th Art Festival of the Kartik Fine Arts here on Thursday.

The award carried a shawl, a medal, a citation and a cash purse of Rs.25,000 each to the recipients.

Speaking at the function E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, said when he was studying in school, the curriculum included music. But, in the present day situation, music and dance have been made extracurricular activities in the school curriculum.

He said music was the best stress buster. It washed away dusts from the soul of humans. The word, ‘Sangeetha,’ encompassed dance, vocal and instrument. To learn music one should acquire knowledge. Apart from that qualities such as listening, memorising and profound meditation were required for an artist. ‘Abhyasam’ should be a perennial process, he said.

Felicitating the recipients Dr. Vyjayantimala Bali, noted dancer said both the recipients started their practice in the respective fields at a very early age. While Dr. Pantula Rama started learning music from nine years, Dr. Janaki Rangarajan started learning dance when she was just four years old. Both were very dedicated artists, she said.

L. Sabaretnam, chairman, Kartik Fine Arts, said the organisation scheduled programmes for 47 days in which more than 1,000 artists would perform.

On the occasion best organiser award was presented to V. Narasimhan, Secretary, Asthika Samajam, Tiruvanmiyur.

D.K. Pattammal Award of Excellence was presented to S.M. Vilasini.
